Practice Your Swing! Annual Golf Show Coming To Oaks

Grab a bucket of balls, and head to the demonstration range

OAKS PA – Philadelphia area golfers have reveled in this winter’s relatively balmy (so far) weather. It’s been cold on occasion, but there’s no snow to speak of and with several days of January (2012) temperatures reaching highs in the ’50s, it’s been tempting to take a bag and balls out for some weekend enjoyment.

So with more-than-usual activity at course still open under winter rules, it’s unsurprising that promoters of this year’s Philadelphia Golf Show anticipate they’ll be welcoming record crowds.

The show is scheduled for Feb. 10 (Friday, from noon to 6 p.m.), Feb. 11 (Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.) and Feb. 12 (Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, 100 Station St., Oaks PA.

Little-known fact: Philadelphia ranks as the fourth-largest golf market in the country, according to show producer North Coast Golf Shows.

The show offers visitors a opportunity to receive free instruction from PGA professionals, watch entertaining stage presentations and demonstrations in the sport, compete in skills competitions to win valuable prizes, plan a golf report get-away to a fabulous resort, and shop and compare pricing on a selection of golf equipment, apparel and accessories.

There are plenty of equipment shopping opportunities, too

It’s biggest draw, however, may be the chance to test, hit and compare the newest 2012 clubs from golf’s leading manufacturers on an indoor demonstration range. Whether they want to try out new clubs before making a purchase decision, or simply want to shake off the cobwebs, promoters claim guests will ” have the best selection of new 2012 clubs right at (their) fingertips.”

Companies represented at the range include Adams Golf, Callaway Golf, Cleveland Golf/Srixon, Cobra Puma Golf, Mizuno, Nike Golf, Ping, TaylorMade-Adidas Golf, Titleist, and U.S. Kids Golf.

If you go … The expo center’s physical address is not recognized by some GPS (global positioning satellite) directional devices. Its management suggests drivers using a GPS set their destination as “1601 Egypt Road Phoenixville, PA 19460 (Upper Providence Township).” That’s actually the location of the Oaks Deli and Pizzeria, and from there signage will lead the way to the nearby center. Parking is abundant and free.

Tickets, which can be purchased in advance online here, cost $10 for adults and are valid for all three days of the show; children ages 12 and younger are free when accompanied by an adult. Save $1 off the admission price with a coupon available here. Visitors also receive a free, one-year subscription to Golf Magazine; those who already subscribe will have their term extended by a year.
