The state's historical marker outside Pottsgrove Manor in Pottstown
HARRISBURG PA – State historical markers have been added to the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission’s mobile website, “PA Trails Of History,” the commission announced Wednesday (June 13, 2012).
Smartphone users now can explore state-owned and operated historic sites and museums, and also search, map and visit more than 2,300 historical markers.
The website, launched by the commission during 2011, automatically recognizes smartphones and other mobile devices, allowing users to locate nearby historic attractions. The site uses geo-location technology to identify the nearest site and provides driving directions from the user’s current location.
The commission said it plans to continually add content and functionality to the website, as people increasingly use smartphones to access information on the web.
