Souderton Prepares For Montgomery County Concert Band

Colette LeFever

SOUDERTON PA – A variety of music will be presented Nov. 18 (2012; Sunday) at 3 p.m. during the annual fall concert of the Montgomery County Concert Band, scheduled to be held at Souderton High School, 625 Lower Rd. Band members include volunteers ranging in age from high school through retirees, and several are residents of western Montgomery County.

The event is free and open to the public.

The concert features guest artist Colette LeFever, performing Concertino for Flute by Cecile Chaminade. Concertino provides a workout for the flutist with a wide-ranging, highly decorative solo part, directors Stephen Frederick and Charles Neidhardt said. LeFever has performed regularly in the orchestras of the Opera Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Ballet, Delaware Symphony, and Princeton Opera.

The band is a 70-piece ensemble that has performed concerts throughout southeastern Pennsylvania since 1995. Rehearsals are held weekly. Its afternoon program also includes music by Samuel Hazo, Clifton Williams, Dmitri Shostakovich, and other composers of music for modern concert bands.

“This year’s fall concert is an opportunity for the public to hear a wonderful soloist, a variety of music, and enjoy the musical talents of their community family, friends and neighbors,” the directors said.
